Washington DC, (June 2002) – At The e-Gov Exposition in Washington DC, Snowbound Software Corporation today announced the launch of its new Web client/server system, SnapServ 1.5 for the Java^TM platform. SnapServ enables users to manipulate and process large documents and images on the Web server for greater efficiency and speed.  Then only the generated results need to be transmitted to the browser client. Rather than transmit a lengthy document or large image in its entirety, SnapServ users have the ability to extract one page or one section at a time, greatly reducing download times.

“If you want to view a page, or a couple of images, in a large document, previously you would have had to download the entire document, which was quite cumbersome and inefficient,” said Simon Wieczner, CEO of Snowbound Software. “With SnapServ, users have the ability to extract, view, annotate, print and upload only the pages that they are interested in. Add the benefits of Java technology, including cross-platform support and no installation, and SnapServ is the fastest and most versatile server/applet system in the industry.”

Additionally, SnapServ can be used with dynamic HTML, enabling image requests to be processed live. Users can download portions of a large image stored on the server, create thumbnails dynamically and resize and crop portions of an image for downloading. Annotations can be uploaded and new pages can be added to documents stored on the server.

Since the system is customizable, administrators and document owners have options as to what users see and how they use the documents and images. For example, SnapServ can be modified to include functions to permit printing of all of the pages, or a certain range of pages, in the document, or eliminate the printing option entirely. Page viewing can also be expanded or restricted at the administrator’s discretion. Since SnapServ is for the Java platform, the system operates seamlessly on Windows, Unix, Sun Solaris, Macintosh, IBM AS/400 and numerous other platforms, and no installation is required.
