Developing Applications in the .NET Framework
The .NET platform is becoming increasingly important for organizations that prefer a Windows-based environment and have the need to distribute documents through web-based applications. Developing imaging applications on .NET can be beneficial to companies that need a flexible Windows platform.
The .NET Framework is a Microsoft programming platform for developing Windows and Web software. Using .NET, developers can easily integrate and connect applications. The major advantage of .NET, compared to previous Windows environments, is a managed type-safe environment for application development and execution. This approach enables the .NET Framework to offer cross-language compatibility, allowing VB.net, C#.net, VC++.net and J#.net to interact with each other.
Applications that run under the .NET Framework Common Language Runtime (CLR) are called managed code because the CLR takes care of many of the tasks that would have formerly been handled in the application’s executable. With the .NET library, a wide variety of applications can be developed including Windows and Web applications as well as Web services.
Applications built in .NET can run on Windows-based servers and desktop clients. Organizations that use multiple platforms will need to create separate applications for their non-Windows systems.
Developers using .NET should look for an SDK optimized to work seamlessly on the .NET framework and provide a full range of imaging capabilities.

President's Corner
I am pleased to announce that a new, valuable resource about imaging trends is now available to you. We have officially launched our new blog site, http://imagingexperts.typepad.com, which provides a forum for discussing the latest industry trends and addressing document and web-based imaging questions.
The blog not only provides an outlet for our developers to post their opinions and views on imaging topics, but it also provides you with a resource to express your own opinions as well as conduct a dialog with our team of imaging experts.
Feel free to express your opinions (please keep it clean) but please refrain from submitting product specific support questions through the blog. As you are aware, we already have channels available for support inquiries and a separate team responsible for monitoring requests through the online support system.
We are excited about the blog and about the opportunity to conduct a dialog with you about the issues facing you and your business in document and web imaging. As always, we welcome your feedback and look forward to “blogging” with you.
