Snowbound Software Donates Imaging Solution to State of Louisiana to Facilitate the Conversion of Important Documents for Archiving

Watertown, MA (January 25, 2006) – Snowbound Software, a leading provider of performance-driven imaging solutions, has donated a Document Conversion Application to the Louisiana State Archives, a Division of the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office.  The product will help the department quickly convert large numbers of archival documents.  

As the official archive for the State of Louisiana, the Secretary of State’s office is responsible for ensuring that all official records are converted to a format that preserves the content and creates a permanent file.   The State has thousands of PDF documents that need to be converted to TIFF before being written to microfilm for permanent storage.     

The impact of both the Katrina and Rita hurricanes has caused the number of hardcopy and electronic files to increase over the past few months and it is expected they will continue to increase in the future.  The volume is causing a strain on the department’s document storage ability as well as requiring more manpower to perform the conversions.    

“The software we currently use has the ability to convert only one file at a time,” commented Al Ater, Louisiana’s Secretary of State. “ The number of hours such a conversion would take for the thousands of files we have would require more manpower than we currently have on staff or could afford. Using Snowbound’s software our employees are able to batch convert mass quantities of files on a daily basis in an automated manner.  This allows us to conserve resources, including space and manpower, as well as save us a tremendous amount of time and expense.”
