Iris Software Creates Powerful Viewer for eDiscovery Solution Application Using Snowbound’s RasterMaster Imaging and Conversion SDK for Java

Applet integrates with eDiscovery workflow solutions to enable viewing, annotation and redaction

(October 15, 2008) – Snowbound Software, a pioneering leader of document viewing and conversion technology, empowered SnowCAP™ partner Iris Software to create an innovative viewing solution that integrates with a premiere eDiscovery application. Iris Software, a specialized software services and solution company, developed a custom Java applet to deliver critical viewing, annotation and redaction capabilities for a client’s leading eDiscovery solution. Iris’ clients include software and litigation service providers to the legal industry.

The client, a provider of enterprise-class eDiscovery technology for leading law firms and Fortune 500 companies, is an early adaptor of ahead-of-curve technologies and pursues product leadership as a value discipline. The client’s product management team wanted to offer a feature-rich document review platform that allowed for collaboration between multi-located teams on a review platform. The key challenges were to allow collaboration between teams that were working on disparate software platforms and a centralized approval system for versioning documents at key milestones.

According to Anil Sanagavarapu, technical services manager at Iris Software, “We were looking for some key features including the ability to quickly create a Java Applet that was compatible with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Using this applet, paralegals and case workers at litigation service providers can efficiently manage and retrieve documents out of the repository with enhanced eDiscovery features and functions, such as –  

• High-speed viewing for a variety of document and image files/formats

• Use true redaction capabilities to ensure sensitive content can’t be accessed or searched
• Navigate between pages using convenient thumbnails

Annotations and redactions made by users are saved to a separate XML file so that a proper audit trail exists for the work done. These annotations/redactions can subsequently be burned back into the file on demand. The applet was designed to have a small footprint (< 18 Kb) to allow for quick load and has the capability to work on PDF, TIFF and other formats.
