Check 21 and Image Exchange
When the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (Check 21) went into effect in October 2004, Snowbound Software was ready with robust imaging technology to assist banks and financial institutions with their efforts in developing image exchange for Check 21 compliant applications. As the premier provider of Web-based imaging solutions for banks and financial institutions, we provide industry-leading technology for viewing, manipulating, and transcoding (converting) documents and images.
Check 21 allows banks to replace hard copy checks with an IRD (Image Replacement Document), which is an electronic "substitute" image of a paper check. Check 21 provides the ability to further streamline the check clearing process. Since an IRD can now be used for presentment it is crucial that the image quality is legible and in a format that is accepted and readable by other financial institutions including the Federal Reserve.
Once the hard copy has been swapped for the digital image, banks are permitted to destroy the original paper, leaving the IRD as the permanent legal record. That is why banks and other financial organizations that decide to Web-enable their documents and records need a supplier that understands their specific requirements including the latest Check 21 and image exchange demands.
We work closely with our financial customers and to develop the features that banking and financial institutions find most valuable – including viewing, converting, manipulating, printing and storing records – to offer the industry a wide variety of solutions to meet developers’ most demanding Web imaging requirements.
