Snowbound recently added the ability for users to utilize our DocClean technology in Java (they were previously available for our .NET & DLL RasterMaster products), so I wanted to highlight some of the benefits of DocClean for those unfamiliar with the technology.
Our DocClean solution provides document and image clean-up capabilities to fix messy documents, including older images that may be inverted, distorted, or just plain hard to read or OCR. For the most part, these are black and white raster images, but can also include color and grayscale documents that have been scanned or faxed.
These clean-up capabilities include:
– Hole punch removal (removes the hole punch circles from the sides of documents)
– Blank page detection (removes blank pages from multipage documents)
– Deskew (fixes skewed or slightly-rotated images)
– Despeckle (removes noise or small dots from images)
– Auto-invert (detects and fixes inverted black and white images)
– Auto-orient (detects and fixes rotated images)
– Line removal (removes horizontal and vertical lines from images)
These DocClean tools provide significant benefits for users across a variety of industries, especially those using automation at the point of capture. This includes banks, insurance companies, medical records organizations and basically any other business that regularly processes scanned or faxed documents.
An additional benefit of the DocClean technology is it helps these organizations to maximize their archiving and storage efficiency by reducing file sizes for storage. DocClean is well-designed for batch conversion of documents and can be run in a multithreaded environment.
